The paper is designed to introduce students to web technologies and give them a broad knowledge of web media technologies and applications.
Throughout the course two projects are undertaken, the first being to construct and maintain a blog. During this time we will each be developing a social network (a set of social network accounts) which will then flow through into the second project - a hand-coded website. This will give the website a context once it's launched.
Topics that will be part of project 1 include:
- planning the focus of our blogs
- setting up a blogspot.com blog
- choosing a URL
- learning about privacy settings
- working with blog themes and custom designs
- altering the visual settings
- setting up and maintaining social media accounts
- using gadgets to add modular functionality to our blogs
- interpreting statistics from blog visitors
- SEO - Search Engine Optimization
- Commenting and ethical concerns
